In this two part class, you will work with an experienced cabinet maker to learn the basics of modern cabinetmaking, including layout, materials, and techniques for building and installing a basic, though fully functional, base cabinet, including a working drawer, door and shelving, suitable for storage or (with a bit of care) as a bathroom vanity. We will also be going over and using all the necessary woodshop equipment for the construction of a cabinet, such as the table saw, jointer, planer, chop saw, and various hand tools.  By the end of the class, you will have a cabinet that you can take home and install . Note: we will NOT be building upper (wall) cabinets. That will be outside our scope. Anyone interested in pursuing more complex cabinetry can discuss future class options with the instructor. 

What to wear: You must dress safely and appropriately. Arrive for class in long pants, and closed-toe, closed-heel shoes with socks that protect up to the ankle. Long sleeves should be avoided if possible and rolled up if necessary. Long hair must be tied back and dangly necklaces, earrings or other accessories shall be removed before starting the class. Additional protective gear will be provided as needed.

About the Instructor: Dave Alvarez has 17 years of cabinet work experience in shops in the Birmingham AL, and Detroit MI.
