Red Mountain Makers

MEET OUR CURRENT AND FORMER RESIDENTS

Red Mountain Makers is proud to support small businesses and entrepreneurs across Alabama and beyond. Click the photos below to learn more about businesses that currently or formerly have rented studio space or have been lead by RMM members who have used our tools and resources, or keep scrolling for some of their stories!

Conserv builds sensors and software for cultural preservation. Their innovative product allows art galleries, museums and historic properties to monitor the environment and target the best conditions to preserve the art.

The company started as a personal air quality monitoring project of founder and CTO Nathan McMinn. After understanding the potential of the technology, he leveraged the expertise and equipment available at RMM to launch the company in late 2018. Conserv since "graduated" from our makerspace but they are still located here in Birmingham, remaining part of the growing innovative community of the city.

"Red Mountain Makers was instrumental in getting us to market"

Emmanuel Umoh ran across Red Mountain Makers when looking for help developing his idea: a smart electronic license plate that can allow you to skip the trip to the DMV to renew your tag. As a non-technical entrepreneur he leveraged the expertise of our makers and the equipment available at the makerspace (like laser cutter and 3D printers) to bring to completion a full round of prototype and founded his start-up VizRom.

In January 2022, VizRom was selected to be part of Innovation Depot's Velocity Accelerator program. Good luck Emmanuel!

"Completing the development of our prototype was only possible because I enlisted the help of Red Mountain Makers"

Studio Al Ponte is a custom furniture and design studio founded by Carlo Rezzonico. Started as hobbyist woodworker and maker, Carlo became a member at RMM in late 2019, and at the beginning of 2021, he took the leap of faith and left his corporate job, becoming a woodworker full-time. According to Carlo, "having access to a fully equipped wood shop and rental room is one of the main reasons that allowed Studio Al Ponte to take off."

Carlo is also RMM's wood shop manager and instructor at RMM, where he teaches how to build cutting boards and other woodworking projects
